Daylily Study VI 2010

Daylilyphotoreference#62010
Daylilystudy#62010

Dear Everyone:

A red daylily is the last entry of my
series of daylilies.

This image really pleases me.
I like the complexity of the 3 blooms
and I find the colour combination
to be very interesting-sort
of like 1950's or Florida colours.

To be truthful I am uncertain
how the colour selection presented
itself to me -it just did. It just arrived.

Hope that you enjoy this image.

As summer winds down so will
the daylilies.

DayLily Study V 2010

Daylilyphotoreference#52010
Daylilystudy#52010

Dear Everyone:

Planning to do an entry in my series
of a blue daylily hovered in my
consciousness for a couple of weeks.

My psychic friend predicted it for me
and said she saw a blue or brown daylily
for my work. I confirmed for her
that I had been preparing to do a
blue bloom and here it is.

Again, I used my own photoreference.

Hope that you enjoy this image.

Daylily Study IV 2010

Daylilyphotoreference#42010
Daylilyphotoreference#4a2010

Daylilystudy#42010

Dear Everyone:

Looked at my photoreference
of a yellow day-lily shot from
a side angle.

Didn't want to paint an exact
replica but just an impression.

Was inspired by an interior
in the September issue of
Canadian House and Home
of a condo in Vancouver
decorated by Tamara Wouters
of the store Peridot for
the store owner.

The interior combined
the washed out colours
of a beach think driftwood
with glamour think a gilt
Moroccan light fixture and
avocado green embroidered
sari pillows in the
master bedroom (shown)
with a faux fur throw tossed
in for good measure.

In the folk art painting
I incorporated the yellow
of my photograph with
gold paint and touches
of green and aqua on
an ivory flower-very glam.

I hope that you enjoy
this image.

Daylily Study III 2010

Daylilyphotoreference#32010
Daylilyphotoreference#3a2010
Daylilystudy#32010

Dear Everyone:
After I completed yesterday's
folk art painting of a daylily
with peach, green and blue
I thought I want to use red.

Today's painting features red as a
backdrop, a soft ivory flower
and black as a further part of the
backdrop.

Then I saw this colour scheme
in an interior decorating
book named "Rooms to Inspire
In the City" by Annie Kelly
and really fell for it further (see
above). It is of a living room
by New York interior
designer Robert Couturier.

I find the colour scheme
of red, black and ivory
to be very sophisticated.

Finally I once again used my own
photoreference.

Enjoy.

Day Lily Study II 2010

Daylilyphotoreference#22010
Daylilystudy#22010

Dear Everyone:

This is the second entry of my series
on daylilies.

I used my own photo-reference
again.

This image has a summery feel
with the colour scheme of peach,
green and blue. You can almost
feel the sunshine.

Once again the daylily bloom
is remniscent of an orchid.

Hope that you enjoy this image.

Something Blue I 2010

Somethingblue#12010
Somethingblue#22010

Dear Everyone:

Blue is about to start showing up in
my work.

A dear friend who is a psychic
as well as an astrologer and
naturopath -made this prediction
about my work:

"The colours will have a muted tone
(almost) and yet some electric colours
will come into play (but just slightly).
Not sure if I can see a new blue or
a green or both. Cannot describe the green
as we do not have the colour yet".

I am working on a few pieces
containing blue but for the
mean-time look at these images.
I saw the colours with fresh
eyes-sensitized by my friend's prediction.

The first image is from the
book on photography titled
"Visual Poetry" and the second
image is a dining room by
Tony Duquette in Annie Kelly's
"Rooms to Inspire in the City".

Enjoy.

Day Lily Study I 2010

Daylilyphotoreference#12010
Daylilystudy#12010

Dear Everyone:

This year finds me fascinated
with daylilies. They grow profusely
in local gardens-wild and cultivated
spaces.

I decided to start a series on them
and so this is the first entry in
the series.

Doesn't the bloom almost
look like an orchid?

Enjoy.

Dear Everyone:

Just some new urban shots.

The young woman with the partially
scalped hair was charming and co-operative
for the shot. I can see why some
photographers focus mainly on shooting people.
There is definitely a thrill to having rapport
with your subject.

The other shots capture an urban vibe-
an apartment balcony, grafitti, a window,
an easter lily against a gritty backdrop.

Hope that you enjoy these images.

Dear Everyone:

What an idyllic image.

Bright painted airondack chairs
from which to sit and survey
the harbour scene.

Boats at anchor.

A true summer classic photograph.

Enjoy.

Daylily Mix 2010

Daylilymix#12010
Daylilymix#22010

Dear Everyone:

Daylilies remain blooming
profusely everywhere.

Took these images in bright
daylight. I usually shoot
early morning when the light
is softer and more diffuse so
these shots are a departure for me.

As a result, these images tend
to glow.

Enjoy.

I combined leopard spots
and a band of emerald green
to set off this stylized day lily.

The day lily came from my own

Shed and roses 2010

Shedandroses2010

Dear Everyone:

When I saw this shot I had
a moment of deep recognition
that I had a shot.

The shot had character and
is even a little haunting.

The colours of red, green and
white add beauty to an image
of rather derelict sheds.
The roses are also a spot of beauty.

Hope that you enjoy this image.

There are 2 houses featured with close-ups

Dear Everyone:

Here is another addition to my
series on models from magazines.

This female figure is dark-complected
and has limbs reminiscent of
Matisse bathers.

Hope that you enjoy this image.
It is already one of my favourites.

Dream Room 2010

Bellamontforrestjuly2010

Dear Everyone:

I discovered a room in a magazine
that I would love to inhabit.

It is a drawing room in a
palladian villa in Northern Ireland-
installed by owner John Coote.

The villa is named Bellamont Forrest.

The walls are a hydrangea pink colour,
the rug is orange and white and
the white chairs are slipcovered.

The art is by Robert Doble
of Melbourne, Australia
(http://www.robertdoble.com/).
I viewed Robert's web-site
and he is a prodiguous talent.

The image of the room is from
the July 2010 issue of British
House & Garden, p.87.

Hope you enjoy this image.

Fashion as art 2010

Australianvogue2010

Dear Everyone:

I am a late-comer to an interest
in fashion unlike my stylish sister who
read Vogue in her teens.

I now collect Vogue India,
Australian Vogue, ParisVogue,
British Vogue and American Vogue.

This image is from Australian
Vogue. The model on the left
is wearing a Vera Wang silk dress.
To my eye it looks like she is
wearing an abstract painting.

I would wear this in a minute
as it truly is a work of art.
Truly it is fashion as art.

See what you think.

Helen.
