Interior Decorating Talent-Carrier and Company

One of the blogs I check in on daily
is habituallychic.blogspot.com.
This blog is run by Heather Clawson,
an interior decorator and stylist
in New York city.

She covers interior decorating and
fashion.

The blog for August 30th, 2009
featured a husband-and-wife
team of interior decorators-
Jesse Carrier and Mara Miller
of Carrier and Company.

With press in Vogue, World
of Interiors and Traditional Home
they have abundant talent.

Jesse is also a contributing editor
and stylist of Vogue and Men's Vogue.

See their portfolio at
www.carrierandco.com

Heather featured their room
at this year's Hampton Designer Showhouse-
a basement den featuring a pool table
and sitting area. The room was done in
shades of burnt orange and is just
exceptional.

I particularly admire their fabric
choices in their work.

Check this duo out.

Always excited to come across
talent new to me.

Have a excited-to-be-alive-
kind of day.

They were staked to posts and there were
morning glory vines wound round the posts.

Quite attractive.

These images are from a public garden, named
the Harriet Irving garden. located in Wolfville.
Wolville is an hour from Halifax in the Annapolis Valley.
Full of meadow and forrest and display gardens,
pathways and streams the garden is at Acadia
university. The Irving funds also built a large
building with a study hall, meeting spaces, a cafe
and a conservatory. The Irvings are
of oil and gas fame.

Just breaking in a new scanner and printer.
The quality of the images appears to be quite good.

These images of a waterfall are contemplative.
When I look at the cascade of water it is quite soothing.
Almost like listening to a real fountain.

Hope that you enjoy these images.

Paula Hayes-Garden Designer

I am a bit of a magazine junkie when it comes to
interior design and photography magazines.

Today, I read Australian Vogue Living vol. 43 no.4.

In this issue I came across a feature article on a ferociously
talented garden designer, Paula Hayes. Based in New York
she did not formally train in garden design but was educated as
an artist. For a self-taught garden designer her work stands out
from the crowd.

Her gardens look like sculpture installations with
silicone containers, glass and crystal pebbles, paving
stones and terrariums. The plants still star despite
all of the interesting hardscape.

See her work at www.paulahayes.com. As well, she
is currently being shown at the Marianne Boesky gallery-
see www.marianneboeskygallery.com.

Hope that her work interests you as much
as it excited me.

Have a full-of-discovery-day today.

Feel like playing with flowers and fabrics
inside this weekend.

Might go to the grocery store and buy a bouqet
to work with. I'm thinking purple flowers and black
tafetta fabric as a backdrop.

In the mean-time I paired my dried rose petals
on hand with a gold taffeta.

Hope that you might enjoy these images.

Decorating cont'd

MBRtake42009

I have been contributing ideas to a friend's
decorating project.

She is a stylish 30-something and likes moody colours
such as red and purple and sepia brown.

I saw a lovely black bedroom at a private home recently
and thought my friend might like one.

I have worked up an idea sheet and in addition
to black incorporated green and lavender (see above).

The green mirror is from Anthropologie as seen in
the recent issue of House Beautiful. The green area rug
is from a Canadian rug company named sourceuk.
(see http://www.sourceuk.ca/). Sourceuk was founded
by designer Kate Thornley-Hall and features rug designs
by Canadian artists.

The art is one of my own photographs and
the fabric is some I had on hand.

Hope that you enjoy viewing this project.

Have a welcome-the-unexpected kind of day.

do one more.

I think the images in the series would make
great wallpaper.
