Crocus painting 2012

Dear Everyone:

Today I felt the drive to paint

something really simple. This

folk art painting of crocuses

filled the ticket.

Enjoy.

Dear Everyone:

This is the 4th face in my series

Dear Everyone:

This pond with the wild iris is

located in Peggy's Cove.

I had set my heart on doing

an iris painting from the

iris photoreference.

I am pleased with the result.

Enjoy.

Mother's Day 2011

Mother'sday(somethingblue)2011

Mother'sday(africanmodel)2011

Dear Everyone:

Am recovering from a bad cold.

Worked up 2 Mother's Day

greeting cards this morning.

Something blue was inspired

by a page in a fashion magazine

featuring only blue items.
I wanted to use indigo and aqua.

The African mother and child

were inspired by seeing African

models also in fashion magazines.

See what you think.

Easter II 2011

EasterII2011

Dear Everyone:

This is my second Easter image
for 2011.

I deliberately left out the
yellow to make it a bit
more grown up.

I sketched the rabbit
some time ago and adapted
the image this evening
for Easter.

I think I'll do one
more Easter image
and then call it a day.

I hope you enjoy this
image.

Helen.

Easter I 2011

EasterI2011

Dear Everyone:

I just started working
on my Easter greeting
cards.

I sketched and painted
this Easter bouqet directly from
a bouqet I picked up
at the grocery store.

I am pretty pleased
with the image and
in particular I am
pleased with the shapes
and colours.

I hope you enjoy
this image.

Celestial horse (blue) 2011

Celestialhorse(blue)2011

Dear Everyone:

This horse comes from my celestial
vision in which I assist Jesus to host
a picnic. Deities and animals come to visit.

The horse is an Arabian with
a concave dish face.

The image wanted red and blue.

I hope you enjoy this image

Celestial cow (picnic) 2011

Celestialcow(picnic)2011

Dear Everyone:

This is the second image
from my most recent religious vision.

The vision had me help Jesus host
a picnic. Animals and deities
visited to pay homage to Jesus.

This is a cow.

Enjoy.

Celestial Cat (picnic) 2011

Celestialcat(picnic)2011

Dear Everyone:

I have been having a series of
celestial/religious visions.

In my most recent one
I help host a picnic for Jesus.

A series of animals and deities visit.

This folk art painting represents
a jewelled cat which was among
the first animals to visit.

The image is rather childlike
but is true to the cat I saw
in the vision.

I hope you enjoy this image.

Model portrait (Asian Beauty) 2011

modelportrait(asianbeauty)2011

Dear Everyone:

Recently I have become interested
in images of Asian beauty.

Luckily the February issue
of U.S. Vogue had some examples.

The photo reference for this
folk art painting was taken
from an Estee Lauder make-up ad.

I hope that you enjoy this
image.

Dahlia portrait II 2010

HPGdahliaportrait#32010
Dahliaportrait#32010

Dear Everyone:

Here is a second folk art painting
of a dahlia from my own
photoreference.

I like painting from my own
photos. It is hard to improve
upon nature and it avoids
copyright issues.

Hope you enjoy this work.

Helen.

Dahlia portrait I 2010

HPGdahliaportrait#22010
Dahliaportrait#22010

Dear Everyone:

It is a tradition to shoot
the dahlias at the Halifax Public
Gardens each fall.

This specimen had a lovely
colour scheme of pink and orange.

I used the shot as a photoreference for
a folk art painting.

I hope that you enjoy this
work.

Model portrait (spanish) 2010

Modelportrait(spanish)2010

Dear Everyone:

This is the latest entry of my
image of a model from a
fashion magazine. Her face
is highly stylized. Almost like
a Japanese geisha. She
happens to be Spanish.
Truly a work of art.

Enjoy.

Petunia study II 2010

Petuniaphotoreference#22010
Petuniastudy#22010

Dear Everyone:

This is the first in my series
of folk art paintings of the
unusual petunia I detailed
in the previous blog posting.

I had never seen the colour
combination of lime green and
fuchsia of these flowers before.

The painting insisted
that I use greens for the
background.

The image is rather stylized
which is typical of my work.

Enjoy.

Helen.
