Light as Air poem 2013

Dear Everyone:

Here is today's poem.

LIGHT AS AIR

What is lighter than the head
of a dandelion or a feather
They float in the wind doing
aerial ballet
I don't want to be weighed
down
Especially in summer I like
to stay light on my feet
I contemplate running and
the air whistling past me
accompanied by a sense of freedom
My shoes spring forward and
make me feel like I'm flying
Lightness, air, freedom, flying
They all capture a desired state
Just don't make me return to
earth anytime soon

Beauty abstract 2013

Dear Everyone:

I continue to create abstract paintings.

This particular piece might be the prettiest
one to date.

It was inspired by the pages of a
fashion magazine.

"Faded" poem 2013

Dear Everyone:

This is my most recent poem.

FADED poem

You look blurred round the edges
I would love to paint you in soft,
pastel tones
Nothing bright or jarring
You lost focus gradually
I know because I am a witness
to your life
Does it trouble you to leave
your twenties behind where
you were sharp as a thumb-tack
Aging is mellowing you
Your personality is fading
Your adult son eclipses you
I guess aging affects everyone
differently
Some individuals get more
strident
More assertive
Others more gentle and wise
Don't fade much more
Or you'll dissappear

May abstract 2013

Dear Everyone:

I am playing with and experimenting with
creating abstract art.

I am pleased with how this turned out.

See what you think.

May's pieces 2013

Dear Everyone:

I do a scenic drive a couple of times
daily and these shots are from the
best gardens on my route.

Note that the first shot features 3 magnolia
trees of different colours-deep pink,
yellow and pale pink.

Hyacinths 2013

Dear Everyone:

I am still enjoying shooting Spring flowers.

Here are some hyacinths I came across
on my way to shoot something else different
altogether.

Recent poems 2013

Dear Everyone:

Some recent poems.

GRAVEYARD TONIC

The graveyard sat, heavy on my mind
I noticed a gravestone for an
infant who died at one year
Artifical flowers serenaded
the graves
I find it peculiarly peaceful
Like a meadow in nature
but this is man-made
The willow trees drape
and fold
I might wander round fighting
sleep and study it all
Honouring the dead comes
easily to me
The phrase "my final resting place"
repeats over and over
I'd have a view of the neighbourhood
where I ran and took countless
photographs of surging flowers
I'd better draft my instructions
Do honour my wishes

Helen.

RECKLESSNESS

The sky is your umbrella
The ground your double bed
Keen and wail for the lost
chances
Dash forward to grab a dime
Pennies have been discontinued
A picture paints a thousand words
You just need one to capture
how you are feeling
I like the term "bloated"
All puffy and waterlogged
you've been swimming in the ocean
Are you chilled
Only surfers in wetsuits
brave the waves
You swam without a
lifeguard
Recklessness is your
middle name
I wonder what's next

If..Then.. poem 2013

Dear Everyone:

This is my latest poem.

IF..THEN..

If fish flew and birds swam
Then planets might collide
at the disorder of things
Basically don't rock the boat
Just toe the line
Heed the cautionary note
and never wake a sleeping child
If rocks spoke-probably in Gaelic
and water walked along confidently
Then would you exhibit confusion
I certainly would
My eyes laugh at the upside-downness
of it all
And then for a moment I feel fear
Put it all back
and it will be restored
I am thankful

"Serious runners only" poem 2013

Dear Everyone:

Here is my latest poem.

"SERIOUS RUNNERS ONLY"

Runners or joggers
What's the distinction
I like the sound of the former
It has some weight and
heft to it
Joggers sounds almost frivolous
Is speed the difference
Do joggers mince
While runners pelt
Do joggers slog along-perhaps
beginners to the past-time
While runners fly along
effortlessly- old-timers
I see the titles of the running magazines-
Canadian Running, Running Times, Running World
The term jog doesn't appear
I pick up a bodybuilding magazine-only
for serious bodybuilders it says
What is the boundary between flirting
with the sport and being a serious bodybuilder
As well, when is a runner considered
serious
One writer said "one mile or
100 miles you are all runners"
I can embrace that

Magnolia up close 2013

Dear Everyone:

I never get tired of photographing magnolia
blooms.

These blossoms were on a tree in the
best garden in the community.

Juxtaposition 2013

Dear Everyone:

I enjoyed this shot because of the juxtaposition
of the delicate, yellow floral branch against
the rustic, rough-hewn brown tree bark.

Just Pretty 2013

Dear Everyone:

Here are two very pretty blur shots.

Blur shots are created by moving the
camera during shooting.

The best blur images look like abstract
paintings to my eyes.

Vanity 2013

Dear Everyone:

Here is proof that beauty can be found in one's own backyard.
These shots were taken at a local MacDonald's.
From the car as I went through the drive-thru.

Chyrsanthenum display 2013

Dear Everyone:

A local garden centre let me shoot
their flowers (despite making no purchases).

This display caught my eye as it was
quite attractive.

Flamingo 2013

Dear Everyone:

I truly enjoyed sketching the graceful neck
and head of this flamingo and selecting
the colours.

Flamingos are a trend right now - at
least in home decor.

May flowers 2013

Dear Everyone:

I am really enjoying shooting Spring flowers
this year.

The one shot is deliberatedly soft in focus.
The other is a strong vertical.

Enjoy.
