BlushinteriorO'Brien2010

Dear Everyone:

Was struck by colours of beige and blush tones
this week.

I put together a few images for you to
see- a folk art painting, a photograph
of blush-tinged tea roses with a beige
background, a fashion spread of nude/
blush hued clothing (Vogue Australia)
and an interior of blush tones
by noted interior designer Thomas
O'Brien from his newly released book
-"American Modern".

Hope that you find these images
inspiring and soothing.

Have a well-reasoned day.

Helen.

Floral Tableau II (Urban bouqet) 2010

Urbanbouqet#32010

Urbanbouqet#42010

Dear Everyone:

This floral bouqet wanted to be posed
in an urban setting such as in front
of a wall of grafitti. I photographed
the daylilies against a mosaic pattern
painted on a door at the Black
Market store located downtown Halifax.

This is the second in my series
of floral bouqets posed in
outside environments.

Hope you enjoy these images.

Have a notice-new-ideas
type of day.

Dear Everyone:

With Spring pending I wanted
to capture the feeling of
wild flowers in a forrest/woods.

The flowers had to be white.
The backdrop had to imply
moss and lichen and tree trunks.

Rather than creating a backdrop
in the studio I thought why
not go outdoors and photograph
the flowers, purchased in a store,
actually posed in nature.

I liked the results so much
that I have decided to do a
series of store-bought bouqets
posed in the outdoor environment.

I have already completed the second
item in the series. To be posted
tomorrow.

See what you think of this first
entry - today's selection

Have a have-a-walk-in-
the-woods kind of day.

Woodland 2010

iconicstump2010

Dear Everyone:

This Spring the charm of woodlands
has assailed me.

I find trees to be magical.
Lichen and moss. Fallen leaves.
Wildflowers. Tree trunks and stumps.

Am pursuing a burgeoning
interest in land conservation.

This image speaks to this interest.

Hope you enjoy it.

Have a consider-your-legacy-kind of day.

Thibaut wallpaper #2 2010

Greenwood-filigree-thibaut#32010

Dear Everyone:

I came across another wallpaper pattern
I favour amongst the selection at Thibaut
(thibautdesign.com).

Called Greenwood the collection is
Filigree.

Stylized trees and leaves in a few colourways
including a silver grey metallic and black and
white shown here.

Imagine a woodland on your walls.
With the silver grey metallic imagine
introducing mossy greens in the artwork
and upholstery fabrics. Truly
a contemporary forrest.

Thibaut wallpaper 2010

henson-filigree-thibaut#1-2010
henson-filigree-thibaut#2-2010

I came across this wallpaper and fabric
company named Thibaut in the pages
of the April 2010 issue of Canadian House and
Home (see p. 56).

Looking at their web-site (thibautdesign.com)
I came across a terrific selection of wallpapers.
They are represented in Canada by Crown
Wallpaper and Fabric (1-800-268-1300).

My favourite pick in their vast selection
was a chateau-style scrollwork pattern.
Pattern:Henson Collection: Filigree.
The colourway I favoured was metallic
gold on ivory and it would look terrific
in my living room. There were a few
other colourways including lime, black and white.

See what you think.

Have a looking-forward-to-Spring
kind of day.

Dubuffet042010(antechamber)

Dear Everyone:

I get particularly thrilled by
encountering art that surrounds
the viewer.

French artist Jean Dubuffet
did such an installation in the early
1970's entitled Closerie Falbala
as seen in World of Interiors
March 2010.

This installation is an
architectural sculpture
made of concrete and marked by
graffitti-like lines of black
on white with blue and red areas.
Apparently the lines are created
by allowing in drawing the
pencil to wander in an automatic way.
The 3-D installation allows
the viewer to walk into it and through it.

There are large walls, different heights
to allow for seating and a central
antechamber structure.

Outside Paris it is available
for private viewings.

Hope that you enjoy this
glimpse of this important
artwork.

Dear Everyone:

Took some photos of an Appaloosa
horse in a field behind a friend's house
last summer. Always wanted to do something
with the images.

This image of the horse painted blue
against a yellow background is pure play.

Hope that you enjoy this image.

Easter image IV 2010 (egg basket)

EasterIV2010(eggbasket)

Dear Everyone:

A friend forwarded an advertisement
for chocolate easter eggs from a gourmet
food company. The eggs were shown in a
basket made of vines or grasses.

This seized my imagination. The
basket I ended up producing in
my folk art painting looks hand-crafted
like it belongs in a museum. The
eggs are bright and cheerful.

Hope that you enjoy this
Easter image.

Have a think-of-a-happy-
moment kind of day.

Mandarin Duck 2010

Dear Everyone:

I am very driven by aesthetic beauty.

I bought an illustrated book of Birds
and one of the first birds featured
was the Mandarin Duck. It may
be the most attractive bird I have
ever seen and I had to paint it.

Named after the colourful rich robes
of civil servants in China
the colours and plummage
are truly spectacular.

They reside mostly in China,
Japan and Siberia and
perch/roost in trees hence
they can be found in forrest
habitats.

They are related to Wood Ducks
which can be found in North America.

Truly a glorious bird.

Hope that you enjoy this
image.

Easter III image 2010 (Boy holding Rabbit)

EasterIII2010

This is the 3rd image in my series of
folk art paintings for Easter.

I wanted to balance the image of
the little girl with a little boy both
holding rabbits.

Hope that you enjoy this image.

Have a getting-ready-for-spring-kind-
of-day.

Desert image 2010

Desertrose2010

This image of a desert scene is a palate
cleanser after the pattern and bright colours
of the Easter images.

This image was driven by the beautiful
colours.

The colours were inspired by an interior
featured in the April issue of
Architectural Digest.

It is a very simple image however
I hope that you enjoy it.

Have a take-a-breather-when
-you-need-it kind of day.
