Creative Superstars

Well. More tips on creative folks.

I came across a team of top American photographers
named Marcus Klinko and Indrani this week.
The pair shot Naomi Campbell for the cover of
the November-December 2009 issue of
American Photo. There is a story on them inside
the magazine. They shoot fashion and celebrity
subjects. Top accounts they have landed include
Beyonce, Iman, David Bowie and L'Oreal.
See their web-site at www.markusklinko-indrani.com.
Their styling is spectacular.

Another find is floral and event designer Preston Bailey.
He is featured discussing his route to success
on the blog of interior designer Vicente Wolf.
See vicentewolfblog.com. The date of the blog
featuring him is October 29th, 2009.
Also visit his web-site
at www.prestonbailey.com to see his work.
His designs are so creative is would be fun to
hear the process he goes through for each job.
His clients include Joan Rivers and Ivanka Trump.

Enjoy looking at the work of these
creative dynamos.

Design Stars

Some of my favourite interior designers.
Those whose career I follow are in this month's
issues of top decorating magazines.

Catch Kelly Wearstler in the November issue
of Metropolitan Home. Her design for her
family's shared beach house in Malibu
is organic and futuristic at the same time.

Then Orlando Diaz-Azcuy is featured
in House Beautiful. The San Francisco
home he and an associate decorated
is calm and soothing, sophisticated
and simple. (see the November issue).

Lastly, Darryl Carter, the look
is spartan and curatorial has
his own residence featured in
the November issue of Elle Decor.
It must take hard work to make a home
look this under-decorated yet coherent.

Enjoy.

October Abstract II 2009

octoberabstract022009

This piece was inspired by the work of sculptor Cristina
Iglesias.

Some of her major work consists of installations
of lattice-like panels of braided metal wires.
These panels are suspended from the ceiling
to form walls and ceilings of latticework.
The latticework is embedded with symbols
from texts. This creates pavillions and hallways/
corridors. The work surrounds the viewer.
A construction within the walls of a gallery
or office lobby. An enclosure. The light shines
through the installation creating shadows
of lace-like shapes on the floor.

In my work. Symbols float across
the page.

Hope that you enjoy this image.

Have an always-open-to-inspiration
kind of day.

Three more shots of dahlias.
The shots are impressionistic on purpose.

I moved the camera, a Freeman Patterson
technique, while taking the shots.

I see these images hanging in an
entryway or in the bedroom of
a stylish young woman.

Autumn Shot

Really like this shot. The shot
almost looks like a
painting on silk. The soft effect
and beautiful colour are striking.

Golden Trees III

fallarches2009

Happened to see this shot and didn't have my camera with me.

Back-tracked and got the camera and drove back again
returning to get the shot.

The sunlight illuminated the golden yellow in a
canopy of arching branches. I recklessly stood
in the middle of the road to get the composition
I wanted.

Funny, fall shots keep presenting themselves
to me.

Have an always-pay-attention kind of day.

Georgia's Hummingbird

Georgia'shummingbird2009

This image unites my bird series with
famous artist Georgia O'Keefe (1887-1986).

The petunia references her most famous work-
her flower paintings. I also associate Georgia
O'Keefe with desert scenes with skulls.

I hope that you enjoy this image.

Kahlo's dove

Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (1907-1954)

had a tragic life featuring a bus accident

that left her disabled and death at a young age.

She is best knwon for her self-portraits with

themes of death, tragedy and loneliness.

She was married to muralist and fellow painter

Diego Rivera.

This folk art painting continues

my bird series while honouring Kahlo.

I hope that you enjoy this image.

Have a young-until-one-dies

kind of day.

I was running yesterday and noticed
many leaves coming down. A true
sign of autumn. Some of the fallen leaves
were lovely so I decided to return to the
street with my camera and take shots of them.

I decided to call these shots leaf portraits.

I returned with my camera and started
shooting fallen leaves. This required
bending or crouching to get my close-ups.

I got many great shots.

A jogger interested in what I was doing
asked me if I was taking pictures of bugs
on the ground. I corrected her but found
this speculation to be quite funny.

How eccentric to be taking pictures
of bugs.

Hilarious.

Hope that you enjoy these images.

Have a look-out-for-the-small-
guy-kind of day.
