BlushinteriorO'Brien2010

Dear Everyone:

Was struck by colours of beige and blush tones
this week.

I put together a few images for you to
see- a folk art painting, a photograph
of blush-tinged tea roses with a beige
background, a fashion spread of nude/
blush hued clothing (Vogue Australia)
and an interior of blush tones
by noted interior designer Thomas
O'Brien from his newly released book
-"American Modern".

Hope that you find these images
inspiring and soothing.

Have a well-reasoned day.

Helen.

Decorating project 2010

MTprojectwallpaper2009(Decormagazine)
MTproject#1020202010 (MariaKlillam)

Dear Everyone:

I am assisting a sophisticated
30-something friend on decorating
her residence.

The colour scheme to date
includes aqua, red, gray and
lavender.

The current thinking is
a master bedroom with aqua walls,
a lavender comforter, and red accents.
The aqua walls replace the Sariskar
wallpaper we had been considering.

Shown are a few relevant images
with their source in brackets.

My friend loves red and wants a touch

of red in every room.

Hope you enjoy this peek

into her project.

Interior Decorating Talent-Carrier and Company

One of the blogs I check in on daily
is habituallychic.blogspot.com.
This blog is run by Heather Clawson,
an interior decorator and stylist
in New York city.

She covers interior decorating and
fashion.

The blog for August 30th, 2009
featured a husband-and-wife
team of interior decorators-
Jesse Carrier and Mara Miller
of Carrier and Company.

With press in Vogue, World
of Interiors and Traditional Home
they have abundant talent.

Jesse is also a contributing editor
and stylist of Vogue and Men's Vogue.

See their portfolio at
www.carrierandco.com

Heather featured their room
at this year's Hampton Designer Showhouse-
a basement den featuring a pool table
and sitting area. The room was done in
shades of burnt orange and is just
exceptional.

I particularly admire their fabric
choices in their work.

Check this duo out.

Always excited to come across
talent new to me.

Have a excited-to-be-alive-
kind of day.

Helen.

Decorating cont'd

MBRtake42009

I have been contributing ideas to a friend's
decorating project.

She is a stylish 30-something and likes moody colours
such as red and purple and sepia brown.

I saw a lovely black bedroom at a private home recently
and thought my friend might like one.

I have worked up an idea sheet and in addition
to black incorporated green and lavender (see above).

The green mirror is from Anthropologie as seen in
the recent issue of House Beautiful. The green area rug
is from a Canadian rug company named sourceuk.
(see http://www.sourceuk.ca/). Sourceuk was founded
by designer Kate Thornley-Hall and features rug designs
by Canadian artists.

The art is one of my own photographs and
the fabric is some I had on hand.

Hope that you enjoy viewing this project.

Have a welcome-the-unexpected kind of day.
Helen.

Decorating

I had to share this.

I have been assisting a young, stylish 30 something
friend with some ideas for decorating her condo.

She loves red and has a red sofa.

I proposed lavender, red and grey and white for her
living room. For her master bedroom I proposed
lavender and red and white or shades of purple and white.
As it happened she had a metallic purple comforter for
her bedroom already and so we were off to a good start.

Imagine my shock when I saw this colour combination
yesterday in a current issue of a shelter magazine
(Veranda). It was an advertisment for a wallpaper
from Osborne and Little. It is quite a striking wallpaper-
see enclosed.

Wow. I guess we were on the right track
with our colour schemes. I hadn't seen lavender

and red put together in an interior prior to this ad.

Have a pleasant-surprises-add -years-to
your-life kind of day.

Helen.

Showhouse-Brad Ford

This week I noticed a talented designer's room
in a showhouse. Showhouses feature a designer
assigned to install each room with the proceeds from
the entry fee going to charity.

The showhouse was in the Hamptons . The room
I noted was a covered porch. The designer's name
is Brad Ford. He had 2 interesting concepts for the room.
Referencing screened porches from his childhood he
installed 2 sofas hanging from wires to represent
swings. Then to represent wind chimes he had an artist
create 800-1,000 porcelain windchimes in the room
hanging from twine.

Lastly he kept to a neutral colour scheme,
installed a simple jute rug, wooden side tables
and a photograph of an African warrior.

It was a very striking installation.

To see the work go to
habituallychic.blogspot.com
and see the posting for Tuesday, July 28th.

Hope you look this one up.

Have a day-full-of-kindness sort of day.

Helen.
