Dear Everyone:

Went back to shoot
a favourite magnolia.

Got some edgy shots of the
magnolia blossoms with forsythia
in the background.

Hope you enjoy these shots.

Have a keep-your-eyes-open-
for-the-unusual kind of day.

Magnolia Revisited

magnoliarevisited012009

I don't know if you have ever experienced this.
I went a bit reluctantly to shoot these shots.
I have a cold and felt under the weather still.
However once I started shooting I felt a bit more
ego-syntonic. Then when I got home and printed
out the shots I was very pleased with them.

Hope that you enjoy these images.

And so the reluctance was worth overcoming.

Folk Art white magnolia

Today, I am quite pleased with my folk art rendition of the photograph of
the white magnolia set against a blue sky.
Seeing my recent work on magnolia in bud a colleague was reminded
of a quote by writer Anais Nin.
The quote speaks to change and being swept along by a change with it being
unhealthy to resist it:
"and the day came when the risk it took to remain tightly closed in a bud
was more painful than the risk it took to bloom". (Anais Nin).
Change can be frightening as it disturbs our sense of equilibrium.
Even if the changes are positive they can still be unsettling.
Old habits and routines are familiar.
Have a take-the-risk-of- blooming-kind-of day.

Seeing beauty

magnoliainbud012009

I think that a common thread runs through my interests
in interior design, art and photography. The common thread
is seeing beauty.

It is rewarding to share what I see with others.
I am also gradually learning that those who view my work
respond with their own associations and memories and responses.

Of my recent work a colleague writes "Thanks to you I am noticing
how nature is slowly unfolding this spring, more so than
I did in previous years. Each stage has its own particular
beauty. Thank-you for reminding us of that. That is the
gift you are giving your community right now in a very
real way".

In today's blog I share a beautiful image of a stack of fabric
seen in an advertisement in a top interior decorating
magazine. As well, I share some further images of
a magnolia tree in bud. I hope that you see the beauty in
these images.

iconic magnolia

I think that these magnolia branches with the pure white blossoms and vivid blue sky in the background look somewhat celestial.

A quote that captures this is taken from the book on photography titled Moments by Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York.

The quote (p.65) is as follows:

"The winds of grace blow all the time. All we need to do is set

our sails" Ramakrishna.

Sounds straightforward.

Have a setting-your-sails kind of day.

Magnolia

buddingmagnolia012009

These images are a bit challenging. I can imagine a mixed
response to them from the viewer. I find them to be quite beautiful with
a kind of meditative effect.

I hope that you enjoy these images.

On a final note. I thought I would share this quote. I came across the quote in a book on photography by Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, titled "Moments".

"There is great happiness in not wanting, In not being something, In not going somewhere." J.Krishnamurti

I think there is something to be said for this.

Have -a -meditative- kind- of -day.
