Model portrait (spanish) 2010

Modelportrait(spanish)2010

Dear Everyone:

This is the latest entry of my
image of a model from a
fashion magazine. Her face
is highly stylized. Almost like
a Japanese geisha. She
happens to be Spanish.
Truly a work of art.

Enjoy.

Dear Everyone:

Every week or so I have the
impulse to drive downtown
and do some shots.

This morning I was sort
of wired to go and shoot.

I'm pleased with the results.

The children's chalk drawings
on the sidewalk are reminescent
of famed Inuit artist Sheojuk
Etidlooie. Childlike and graphic
and simple.
The jogger continues my shots
of individuals exercising.

The workmen look sort of
honourable and hardworking.

The attractive box of petunias contrasts
with the rundown look of the house
behind.

Enjoy.

Folk Art Bird (Common Grackle) 2010

Folkartbird(commongrackle)2010

Dear Everyone:

In a recent telephone conversation
with my mother she was describing
the birds coming to her bird feeder.
Her description of a grackle
caught my attention. In the sun
she could see the irridescent bronze wings.

This is my folk art painting of
the common grackle.
The flowers in the painting
are lime green and fuchsia
pink petunias from a friend's
garden pots.

I hope you enjoy this image.

Dear Everyone:

I went out to shoot a
foggy morning and ended
up by serendipity shooting
people out early exercising.

These are 4 strong shots.

Dear Everyone:

Shot these Easter lilies on
the same day as I shot the
hydrangea.

Signs of fall are arriving.
Advertisements for
fall clothes, the fall issue
of Vogue, and registering
for fall courses.

Hope you enjoy these shots.
Tried to not rely entirely for the
most part on single bloom shots.
Wanted a 3D effect again.

Dear Everyone:

Summer continues to
fade away on us as time
zips by. Mornings are getting
cooler now.

Hydrangea always signal
fall to me.

Here are 3 kind of edgy shots
of hydrangea.

I am really pleased with them.
Especially with the 3D depth effect.

Enjoy.

Pleasing Image II 2010

AndrewBateyvilla

Dear Everyone:

This image of an outdoor
courtyard tugged at my
heart strings.

Wouldn't it make for
a perfect dream outdoor
space for a perfect dream
house.

The architect is
Andrew Batey.
A classicist building Palladian
style villas in Californian wine
country with over 30 years experience.

Educated at both Oxford and
Cambridge universities he
favours natural stone and stucco.

His buildings look built to
last. And avoid trends.

Enjoy.

Something Green 2010

Somethinggreentriptych2010

Dear Everyone:

Summer is winding down.

I am struck less by the few summer
flowers left than by the green
foliage all around.

Here are some images of green-

-an office belonging to stylist Erin
Gates of Elements of Style

-3 photos of greenery
from a local neighbourhood
presented in a triptych

Enjoy.

Pleasing Images 2010

Wstfloral#12010
Roomblue#12010

Dear Everyone:

Have 2 pleasing images to share.
I am caught up staring at them.

The first is my photo of a plant at the entry
of a home in a local neighbourhood.
It looks like an orchid but I am unfamiliar
with it and don't know the name.
I love the horizontal stripes of
the siding in the background
and the light coming in through
the window.

The second image is off a blog.
A pleasing dining room.
The table is sort of industrial
and a bit rustic. The chairs are
uber-modern. The blue in
the abstract painting is terrific.
All topped off with a glamourous chandelier.

See what you think.

After Clemente II 2010

Clementeportrait2010

Dear Everyone:

Here is a recent photograph of
painter Francesco Clemente.

As well, I've enclosed a painting
from his series "A History
of the Heart in Three Rainbows".

Note the symmetry of the painting,
the jester clothing and the meditative pose.
Is the figure offering the hearts to
the gods or to a lover.

Enjoy.

After Clemente #1 2010

Afterclemente#12010

Dear Everyone:

This latest image was inspired by
the work of painter Francesco Clemente.

Born in Italy in 1952 he is famous for his
dreamlike figures and portraits.

He currently resides in India, New York
and Italy. Married for over 30 years
to Alba Clemente he has 4 children.

He has asserted that he is
a "painter by default". He
didn't want to do anything else for
a living and so turned to painting.

Friends with Allan Ginsberg,
Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel
Basquait -he used to collaborate
with them.

His rainbows appear in an exhibit
of watercolours in 2009
"A History of the Heart
in Three Rainbows". Award-winning
St. Lucian poet Derek Walcott wrote the
introduction for the exhibit catalogue.
Hearts and rainbows dance across
the page with figures sometimes
being acted upon.

Hope that you enjoy my homage
to Clemente.

Dear Everyone:

Couldn't help but return
to Peggy's Cove a second day
in a row.

Repeated breakfast at
the restaurant and coffee
at Beale's Bailiwick, on
the deck.

Took a few more photos.

Enjoy.
